Aonach Mhacha would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the Irish language and to ascertain the demand for a Part-Time Diploma in Irish in Armagh delivered by the University of Ulster. We hope to use the information collected from this survey to implement a plan to facilitate the provision of the Irish Language Diploma in Armagh City.

The Part Time Diploma in Irish is a brilliant opportunity to achieve a solid grounding on the different aspects of the Irish language while developing key areas such as conversation, grammar, reading and writing. The Diploma is delivered on one evening during the week. This particular part-time course is 2 years long and as well as serving as a possible pathway for entry to a BA degree in Irish, the course can be seen as a free-standing unit in its own right.
University of Ulster Irish Diploma to be Available in Armagh? – Take the Survey!
An bhfuil Gaeilge agat? Would you like to acquire a high level of competency in Irish without the hassle of travelling to university in Belfast or Derry?
Anyone who has studied Irish to GCSE or O Level at school and would like to get his/her knowledge of Irish back on track is encouraged to consider the Diploma in Irish Language, accredited by the University of Ulster. Even if you don’t currently have any Irish, or just a cúpla focal, we’d still like to hear your views!
Aonach Mhacha, the eye-catching new Irish Language and Cultural Arts Centre in Armagh City, is currently surveying potential demand for delivery of the university accredited Irish Language Diploma right here in Armagh. This would be a massive boost for the City which has for well over a thousand years prided itself as an epicentre of education and learning.
And only takes two minutes to complete! Your opinions are much appreciated!
This course is ideal for those currently attending night classes who want to take the Líofa (fluency) challenge to the next level. Parents of children attending a Naíscoil / Gaelscoil are particularly encouraged to enrol.
The Diploma is perfect for those with some knowledge of Irish who want to improve their grammar or enhance personal confidence and fluency without travelling to university in Belfast or Derry City.
You are also welcome to apply if you:
• Have studied Irish informally at short courses or classes in the community and would like to advance to a higher level of ability.
• Studied Irish in school, e.g. to GCSE or AS level and would like to renew and extend your skills, and take a higher qualification.
• Work in the Irish language sector but have no formal qualification in Irish.
Applicants who have no previous experience of learning Irish but who can demonstrate an aptitude for language study may also apply.
Government support available for those in receipt of benefits: www.studentfinanceni.co.uk On completion of the Diploma students can proceed to the degree course BA Irish Language and Literature and modules taken on the Diploma are credited towards the final degree.

It is a two-year course and there are no official exams in Year 1. Students take 3 modules each year focusing on listening, speaking, reading and writing. There are two terms per year, each lasting 12 weeks comprised of:
• 1 night of class per week
• 3 Saturday morning boot-camps
• 1 Gaeltacht weekend (Gweedore, Co. Donegal)
