On 7th August this year, join us for a very special journey travelling in the footsteps of Cú Chulainn, the legendary hero of Ulster. The Camino Mhacha will wind its way from Mullaghbane in the Ring of Gullion, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to Armagh City, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland.
On the first weekend of August 2020, the inaugural Camino Mhacha was held, a 25.5 mile walk through a land steeped in myth and legend. Following in the footsteps of Cú Chulainn, Camino Mhacha begins in the Ring of Gullion, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with walkers departing from the village of Mullaghbane. Winding its way through glens and hills, the Camino follows a route of stunning landscape and natural beauty culminating in Armagh City, where a heroes feast awaits walkers at Aonach Mhacha.
Now an annual event, Camino Mhacha is organised by Aonach Mhacha, the new Irish Language and Cultural centre in Armagh and funds raised through the registration fee will contribute towards the running costs of the event.
Camino Mhacha is not a fundraiser event however individuals are not precluded from raising money. Individually walkers can consider Aonach Mhacha as their designated charity of choice, however fundraising for other charitable causes is not precluded.
Registration for Camino Mhacha will open in May 2022. A registration fee of £120 is payable and this will cover the cost of light refreshments along the route, the heroes feast in Armagh on finishing the Camino and a commemorative Camino Mhacha t-shirt.
Camino Mhacha is a 25.5 mile walk and participants should consider their own levels of health and fitness before taking part.
Please note, that by agreeing to take part in this event, that you agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the organisers and the advice and guidance of marshals on the day of the Camino.
